Hello Music Lovers!
I hope your summer has been sweet. Mine has been busy but nice. Dale and I are still working full-time, Wednesday through Sunday, at Phillips Beach Plaza hotel in Ocean City, Maryland. This is Dale’s 34th season and my 12th. God is good! We will continue this schedule through the end of September, except for a few dates, which I will list below.
We are still playing one Saturday a month in Baltimore at the luxurious Intercontinental Harbor Court hotel on Light St. overlooking the Inner Harbor. The third Saturday of the month has been the norm and I hope it continues to be so. It has been a year and we still love playing there despite the long day. The Chef Salad there is awesome! Last night we performed there and were so honored by
a foursome who come just to hear us, as well as Bernie, a resident there who loves our music. September 18th is our next date there.
This next Friday, August 27th, we are honored to be invited to play for the members of Cripple Creek Country Club. This is a private club and we’ve been told they have sold out for this evening! Looking forward to meeting all of them!
Sunday, September 19th we have a private function.
Friday, September 24th we have been invited to perform for the Greater Salisbury Committee’s annual banquet. What an honor to give back to the local business leaders for Wicomico County who help make it a wonderful place to live.
October at Phillips Beach Plaza has not been booked yet, but I highly suspect we will play weekends. The hotel will close for the season on Oct. 31st.
Thank you to all of you who read this newsletter! Many of you have asked how my road trip with my mother went in June. It went so well I cannot put it all into words. Some highlights include: sticking our toes and skipping rocks on the Mississippi river as we crossed into Iowa; seeing many wind farms, watching the landscape turn from green fields to rolling hills to bluffs and buttes and then into mountains and high plains; Bison sirloin in Cheyenne, Wyoming; staying at four different Air Force Base hotels; thrift stores; local grocery stores; wading in the Great Salt Lake; walking on the Bonneville Salt Flats; Lake Tahoe’s northern shore; feasting on Dutch Babies prepared just for us by friends; touring Old Sacramento; touring San Juan Batista then dining in a restaurant with awesome Mexican food built around a flower garden with a harpist playing behind me; Yosemite; Joshua trees in Southern California’s desert; the Grand Canyon; Sunset Crater; Del’s Restaurant in Tucumcari, New Mexico on Route 66; seeing family in Chicago, California and St. Louis; watching the landscape turn green again in Oklahoma; and spending time with my mother chatting and reminiscing. I saw the amber waves of grain and purple mountain’s majesty. I saw the antelope roaming freely in Wyoming. Many times we were surrounded by mountains and felt like we were going to be raided by Indians at any moment like in an old movie. Nevertheless, God was ever present and we felt like cherished daughters, being treated like queens everywhere we went. Yes, it was the trip of a lifetime. We are both so grateful for the opportunity. We took many, many pictures and Mom always keeps a travel log to fill in the spaces.
Our newest CD, “Playin’ in the Alley” is available and I really think it is our best recording yet. We are both extremely proud of it. You can hear samples on CDBaby.com. Search for Rhonda Apple and Dale Britt and you’ll find it.
Okay, I finally got this chore off my list and I am about to go change into my dress for tonight’s gig at Phillips. Thank you, again, to all our loyal supporters. We would be nothing without you! Gotta go sing….Rhonda
