April 4, 2011 Update Hello Music Lovers, Spring is here, according to the forsythia and daffodils. The winds of March are tearing it up outside my window today. I have news about Phillips Beach Plaza. The word is that they want to make a change and that probably will not include Apple and Britt at the piano bar. The grand piano is still there, however many changes have already been made to the Beach Plaza. The restaurant has a new name, new carpet and colors on the walls---much like a boutique hotel. The small lawn in front of the hotel is now a patio with tables and chairs for dining and drinks. The front porch will have the beloved rocking chairs, as well as sitting areas with couches for drinks and tapas. A new, Bose sound system has been installed with four different sound zones. There is talk of a DJ playing music for ambience. The whole first floor dining area, lounge and lobby have been painted modern shades of gray and navy blue. The columns around the Parlor Lounge have been painted gold. The antique couches and chairs have been reupholstered. Even the ocean front hotel rooms have been renovated and given luxurious linens and towels. The new restaurant’s name is Bombolo, and the chef is Arturo. He said he wants the piano music a couple days of the week, but evidently he does not have the final say on that. Consequently, Dale and I are thinking our tenure at the Beach Plaza has come to an end. It was a good run: 34 years for Dale and a dozen years for myself. We are blessed to have had such a steady job in a lovely and close by location. In other news, Dale and I have three gigs at a new venue: Baywood Greens in Longneck, Delaware. Specifically we’ll play in the Baywood Clubhouse Restaurant: phone 302-947-9225. Address is 32267 Clubhouse Way, Long Neck, Delaware 19966. Take Route 24 and you'll see it. It's an impressive golf club and community. We’ll be there April 29th, May 6th and August 6th. The gig is from 6 to 9pm. So, my daughter is graduating high school this June and I’m happy to be available for every moment. Dale’s oldest daughter is getting married in June, so he’s expected to be there for all those festivities. Just like everyone else, this economy has had it’s impact on us, but we are not giving up hope. It just seems like a slow year for us, and maybe that is just what we need. I continue to place my faith in the Keeper of the Stars. He knows what’s best for us anyway.
